Holla! Greetings and hello to all rugby fans out there. We met again in this lousy blog (with Bad Grammar™) with the new and very hot story about the HSBC – Malaysia COBRA 10′s 2011 tournament that was held at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya, Malaysia. For your information, The COBRA 10′s is the world’s first 10 a-side rugby tournament that was held in Malaysia since 1967. Although Malaysia may seem an unlikely place for the making of rugby history, yet it was here some 44 years ago that 10-a-side rugby was born. Today, the COBRA 10′s has developed from strength to strength, attracting teams from all corners of the world. It has been this tournament, which has put Malaysia in the international rugby map. The sport also maintains high appeal worldwide, with rugby being the third most watch sport in the world. While the current perceptions of the game point to masculinity and physical conquest, the game has an extremely high awareness and appeal across all age group worldwide.
This year, there were total of 16 teams that participate in the tournament and all around the world to grab the COBRA’s cup and the money prize worth USD15,000 and that is really worth it for the winner. The defending champion of 2010 that is Penguin RC (UK) also here and they don’t want to let the trophy to be given away to other team. Malaysia also sent 4 of the best team and one of it was COBRA itself and this year they want to try hard to grab the trophy back to their own country.
For the first day, all of the team play hard to be in the top ranking and all teams expecting to be in the cup category. But after the day’s end, they had some shocking result but still they want to fight until their last breath to win the prizes in their category. The favourite team such as COBRA, Penguin and Canterbury were on their right path in the Cup category and they tried very hard to be the champion.
At last, as expected by the crowds, Penguin won the semi finals against Borneo Eagles with 17-15 and the game was very enjoyable with each team keep scoring and defending and the other semi finals between COBRA and Canterbury, COBRA won the game with only 1 try without successful conversion. Both of the winning team then set to the final game between COBRA and Penguin RC.
The final game also was a very tight game and the first try was scored by COBRA at the first half. They really made The Penguins sweating and not long after that, The Penguins back with their pattern play of the game and they scored a try with a successful conversion. The second half match was harder and each team keep attacking hardly to find a try. COBRA just about to have a try when their try were not approved by the referee because of the ball is hanging inside the in-goal area. After that, The Penguins did not look back anymore and run very fast to score their victory try and it ends with the score of 12-10.
So that’s enough for story and let’s look at the action through the tournament and Enjoy!
