NS Royal Sevens 2014

Timmy Kenatale from COBRA (White) Hand-off his opponent from Iskandar Raiders (Pink/Black) during the final match of the NS Royal Sevens 2014.

Assalamualaikum and Hi to all my Rugby Buddies and Supporters!

It’s a long time since i’ve wrote in my so own called “Rugby Blog” becoz of my works and many things that I need to work on. My last tournament that I’ve covered was the MCKK Premier 7′s that can be seen Here and no Super League game this year.

COBRA's Player (White) were tackled by Iskandar Raiders during the Final Cup match of the NS Royal Sevens 2014.

So let’s move on to the newest and last tournament before Ramadhan that is the NS Power Royal Sevens 2014 that was held at the “Padang MPS Seremban”. Most of our rugby players and supporters know this place very well I think. This year, the tournament had 3 categories that is School, Premier Clubs, and Super but I dont know why, this year event look a bit dull and not so lively like 2-3 years ago. One of the reason is maybe the date clashed with the World Club 10′s at Singapore.

Never mind, keep reading ya? :P

This year event also witness the presence of our Malaysian 7s Rugby Team that was registered as “President 7s”. We were so eager to see their action becoz they had run through a lot of training inside and outside the countries including South Africa and others. They had also spent a big allocation for their development and at first sight I really hope that they can show us something special.

Keris Conlay Player's (Red) block the tackle mad by his opponent from SSTMI during the Final Match at the NS Royal Sevens 2014.

But my thought was absolutely wrong. The team was prepared enough but they lost for 3 games! 2 games with our local club and 1 game with the Chinese Taipei in the Final Plate Match. In my opinion based on the 3 games that i’ve watched, they still lack of discipline and maybe over confident. On the first match against NS Wanderers, they played very well and maybe becoz of some mistakes, NS Wanderers could gain control and win the game. But the second game with COBRA, there are still what we called as “Tahan Bas” and they keep arguing with the Referee.

Mohd Aiman from MRSM Beseri (blue/yellow) making a powerful run towards the try line during their Final School Cup Match againts Semahsyur (Maroon) at the NS Royal Sevens 2014.

I wouldnt say much about the “Tahan Bas” becoz that is the basic in rugby and they should not show that in front of their supporters especially after their development tour at South Africa. But the main thing in rugby is respect to the referee decision and not arguing with the ref! At one time they still arguing with the ref about the scrum and COBRA take that chance to get the try. They must understand the rule of thumb in rugby that is ask the Captain to ask the Ref and do not Ask the ref while Penalty or Free Kick. Just play and if the complain accepted by the Referee, the try also can be pulled back. So why need to play that way and get their own team mate in trouble? Especially by the “Professional” team that playing in “Super” category.

But at the other aspect, they really show a good running and tactical play. And I believe they could do much better than that. So keep up your good effort and keep us proud Malaysia 7′s! :)

So what’s up with the Action? Lets roll on! :)
